Pisces was featured on the BBC2 programme, 'The Fixer' - A documentary series with Alex Polizzi which follows family-run businesses and their ups and downs. 

First broadcast date - Tues 12th March.

A family business for over 60 years.

Pisces was started by Derek Holbrook and Arthur Haines in 1948. 

Initially it traded from two different sites, one a house in North Road, the other a wooden ex-army hut on Westerleigh Road in Yate. The fish and chips were cooked using a coal fired range.

Towards the late 1950's, Arthur left the partnership and Derek bought the existing premises, then a grocery shop, opposite the Newman Electrical factory. 

Today the shop is owned by his son Keith 'Kipper' and Julia Holbrook taking the art of fish frying into the next generation with contemporary looks and energy saving equipment. This serves you better and more efficiently, but still cooking traditional fish and chips, the way you like them cooked!


The focus of our business is seafood, but other traditional items are also offered, sourced locally where possible. 

The 100%beef burgers and ultimate burger buns are provided by Hobbs Butchers, and Hobbs House bakery, just a mile up the road.

Because we care about the environment we only buy wild, prime quality sustainable fish, from well managed fishing grounds.

Our potatoes are carefully selected from UK farmers and freshly hand cut daily on the premises. 


We use a family recipe for our cooking oil, handed down through the generations. It is a mix of the best quality ground nut oil with a small amount beef dripping which gives it its unique flavour.

The hand made beef pasties and vegetable pasties are created by the 'Hunks of Chunk' in Devon and baked daily in our ovens. 


Fishcakes, mushy peas and tartare sauce are regularly prepared in our kitchen and appear on our specials board, alongside the daily fish of the day.

We've achieved the highest standard of cooking by investing in a 'state of the art' frying range equipped with the latest technology. 

We are allied very closely with the government body 'WRAP' working together for a world without waste, to reduce our impact on the local environment. 

Bio degradable packaging is used where possible.

The Sea fish Quality award has recently been awarded to us. Only 2% of the nations fish and chip shops currently hold this. It reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in our industry. 

Our philosophy is simple........to offer our customers the finest quality fish and chips using the freshest ingredients at an affordable price.
